Venue type guide
Theatres in Singapore range from the national performing arts centre on the bay to a 1929 cinema converted for live shows. This guide sorts the main halls by what they stage, so you can pick the right one for the show you want.
What these venues host
Theatre in Singapore is concentrated in a handful of buildings, each with its own character. Anyone searching for theatre shows in Singapore will mostly end up at one of five addresses: Esplanade on the bayfront, Victoria Theatre & Concert Hall in the Civic District, Capitol Theatre on Stamford Road, The Star Theatre at Buona Vista, and Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands.
The split of work is fairly clear. Esplanade is the national performing arts centre and mixes ticketed concerts, dance and theatre with a large free programme. Victoria Theatre & Concert Hall describes itself as the premier home of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, and also hosts the Singapore International Festival of Arts and the Singapore Writers Festival. Sands Theatre is the usual home of touring Broadway-style productions, so it is the first place to check for musicals in Singapore.
Concert halls in Singapore are not all classical rooms. The same stages carry pop, jazz and world music, school and community performances, and one-off galas. Capitol Theatre, built in 1929, takes concerts alongside weddings, conferences and corporate events, so its calendar is more mixed than a pure theatre.
Programmes shift month to month, and a long run of a musical can occupy a hall for weeks. We list the venues here and link to a full guide where one is published, with confirmed dates on each venue page rather than on this overview.

Practical tips
Book early for musicals. Touring productions run for a fixed season, and the best seats go first. Buy from the venue’s official channel or its named ticketing partner. Esplanade, for instance, ticket through SISTIC and says SISTIC booking fees apply.
Check whether it is free before you pay. Esplanade runs free performances in the Concourse and the DBS Foundation Outdoor Theatre, and a free monthly concert series in the Concert Hall. Other venues are ticketed throughout.
Arrive early. Esplanade states that latecomers are not admitted until a suitable break in the performance, and the same rule is common elsewhere. Photography and recording are generally not allowed during indoor shows.
Plan the journey. Esplanade is served by Esplanade (Circle line) and City Hall stations. Victoria Theatre & Concert Hall is roughly a 10-minute walk from City Hall or Raffles Place. Sands Theatre sits inside Marina Bay Sands, and Buona Vista is the area for The Star. On big event nights, allow extra time for taxis and ride-hailing queues.
Eat first. Esplanade does not allow food and drink inside its venues unless the promoter says otherwise, and many halls have similar rules. Esplanade Mall under the twin domes has restaurants and cafes for a pre-show meal.
Confirm dates with the promoter. Casts, times and ticket rules can change, and the venue’s own page is the final word.
The five covered here are Esplanade, Victoria Theatre & Concert Hall, Capitol Theatre, The Star Theatre and Sands Theatre. Between them they stage concerts, musicals, drama, dance and festivals.
Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands is the venue most often tied to touring Broadway-style productions. It has staged The Lion King, Wicked, Hamilton and Frozen, and lists a production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast on its site. Check the Marina Bay Sands page for current dates.
Victoria Concert Hall has 673 seats and is the home of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. Esplanade also has a Concert Hall, which hosts its free Beautiful Sunday concerts.
Yes. Esplanade lists many free performances in its public spaces and festival programmes. See our Esplanade guide for what is confirmed.
Buy through the venue or the show’s named ticketing partner. Esplanade sells through SISTIC and its own box office. Avoid resale listings, as Esplanade tickets are non-refundable and resale is not allowed.
